What is a Qualified School Lunch?
A Qualified School Lunch contains 5 components: protein, fruit, vegetable, grain and milk. Students need to take at least 3 of the 5 components offered of which one must be either a vegetable and/or fruit. All grains have to be Whole Grains.
- Weekly Average Requirements are based on calories, sodium, and saturated fat.
- About 70% of all products bought for our school lunch program are from local suppliers.
- Rockford Public Schools uses the Farm to School Program with distributors that ensure the safety of the products we serve.
- Child Nutrition Labeling: This is a label from the manufacturers to ensure their product meets the Child Nutritional Requirements. All public schools must follow this requirement.
- Special Dietary Need: Schools must make reasonable changes to meals and/or snacks for students who are considered to have a disability or medical need that restricts their diet. This is done on a case-by-case basis.
- Special Diet Request Form (Medical): Required for medical substitutions that alter standard meal patterns. Must list omitted/substituted foods, exposure effects, and be signed by a licensed medical authority (MD, DO, PA, NP, or RDN). An approved IEP or 504 Plan to contain this data replaces the form. Special Diet Request Form (Medical) linked HERE.
- Milk Substitution Form: Used specifically to request fluid milk substitutes at lunch. Milk Substitution Form linked HERE.
